Houseplants in the spring/summer 2023 Trend Collection
On 1 March 2023, Thejoyofplants.co.uk and Funnyhowflowersdothat.co.uk will be presenting the sixth edition of the Trend Collection, called Collecting Memories. The spring/summer 2023 collection contains 16 houseplants, outdoor plants and flowers. Not only do these align impeccably with interior trends, but the flowers and plants are also perfectly coordinated with each other. The result is a distinctive, harmonious collection with a touch of nostalgia.
Memories and familiarity
At times, it feels as if the world is bouncing from one crisis to the next. The restlessness this generates increases our need for reassurance and memories to cherish. This is why we often surround ourselves with familiar products that comfort us with their gentleness and harmony. With their soft and deep shades of green, the seven houseplants in this Trend Collection offer consolation and a sense of safety. Their whimsical shapes also tell a familiar narrative, especially the older plants that have adapted to their surroundings.
Collecting Memories in seven plants
Meet the plants in The Trend Collection:
Blue star fern
The leaves of the blue star fern are shaped like fingers and are slightly curled. Their shape is reminiscent of the oak leaf – not surprisingly, as this plant is a member of the oak fern family. The gentle look & feel of the blue star fern can not only be attributed to the shape of its leaves, but also to the characteristic blueish grey colour.
It is like bringing a tree into your home. The Araucaria is the younger brother of the large pine trees you find in the forest. This indoor species can grow up to two metres in height. Fanning branches and green needles give this houseplant a familiar and comforting feeling of home. The bonsai version of the Araucaria also fits perfectly within this collection – naturally, in modest-sized interiors.
With its dramatic flower spike, coloured spathe and shiny leaves, the anthurium has a bit of a retro reputation. In The Trend Collection, this plant is found in light, soft colours like yellow. If you place the anthurium in a bright spot and give it the occasional misting, the plant – and your relationship – will flourish
Thanks to the different shapes and forms of the bromeliad, this plant is like a fountain of leaves with a coloured flower, plume or torch rising out of the centre. If you include the bromeliad in Collecting Memories, choose the pastel-coloured version. After all, it is the light colours that give this plant its soft look, thereby perfectly reflecting this trend.
With its round shapes and sea of delicate flowers, the hydrangea is a logical choice for this collection. And with petals that fade slowly, it represents nostalgia at its best. The white version of this plant is the best match for the spring/summer 2023 Trend Collection. The hydrangea loves water and is the biggest drinker in the Collecting Memories collection.
The ficus family is huge and impressive. For The Trend Collection, we have chosen the colourful, small-leaved varieties. Whereas the varieties with large leaves give a solid impression, the ones with small leaves have a softening effect. Combine different varieties, from hanging to grafted on a stem. The resulting contrast in shapes, heights, deep green colours and different leave shapes is sure to impress.
Houseplant display tips
You can attract attention to the houseplants in The Trend Collection by clearly displaying them as a collection in the shop. Group them in ceramic pots, woven baskets or wooden bowls. Choose plant pots that reflect the colours in Collecting Memories – shades of green, a yellowish olive green, white, lilac and pink.
